Costa Rica - 2004

South bound we picked up fuel in Liberia, and continuned on to Panama. North bound we landed in the capital city of San Jose' where we spent two wonderful days as eco-tourists. We visited volcanos, cloud forests, coffee plantations, and Caribbean jungles.

Costa Rica felt very different than the other Central American countries. Both the city and country side have a prosperous and calm feeling. Driving through residential neighboroods gave me the odd feeling that I was in a latin suburb of Los Angeles California. Clearly one hundred plus years of political calm has had its impact.

On the way south we stop in Liberia only long enough for fuel..

San Jose'

We landed at Pavas International which is the downtown airport. There is a newer, bigger airport, Coco, that handles all the commercial traffic. It's further out of town. A $5.00US taxi ride took us to the center of town where we stayed at the Grand Hotel Costa Rica on the main plaza.
