This lower rudder bearing is one inch thick, four times thicker than the plans call for. I made this change because I know of two cases in which the plans designed bearing failed, With this thicker material I can wrap a band of UNI around it (see below) and secure it to the vertical stabilizer..

Rudder Stop mounted on Bearing. Because I have installed the "JimBob Six Pac" of modifications, I need to have a Rudder Stop to limit the total rudder travel.

Under the peelply is a layer of UNI with a layer of BID over it, which secures the bearing and rudder stop to the vertical stabilizer and hopefully reduces the likelihood of the phenolic bearing material failing and releasing the lower end of the rudder.
